March

Hopefully when we meet in March we will have even the slightest signs of spring! Below are our options for our meetup on March 16th. 4-6pm in the Family Room at the Urbana Champaign Independent Media Center (202 S. Broadway, Urbana). Come whenever you can! Read however much you like.

First option: Selected writings from Hakim Bey. Click The link below.

Hakim Bey, TAZ

Second option: If you’re like me and dying for some fiction I propose we get through at least half of The Fifth Sacred Thing by Starhawk. It should be available at used book stores (maybe Jane Addams has a copy?), the libraries, or wherever. I got a used copy online super cheap.

Your last option: Just show up and hang out. Reading any or all of the materials is not required to come and discuss!

See ya’ll in a bit!

February’s Gathering

Howdy Folks,

03_emma-goldman-2

For February we are going to read about some basics of radical thought. We will continue to discuss January’s reading by Emma Goldman (“A New Declaration of Independence”), which is a short article found here.

If we have time we can continue talking about the first few chapters of Debt: The First 5000 Years.

Please consider bringing ideas for future readings, movies, music, whatever. This group belongs to everyone. It’s going to be what we make of it.

As usual we will meet the third Sunday of the month, Feb. 16th from 4-6pm in the Family Room at the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center located at 202 S. Broadway in Urbana.

And as always, new folks (and families) are welcome!

See y’all soon!

***(This post was updated on September 26, 2015 to remove the promotion of the book Black Flame, co-written by Michael Schmidt who has recently been confirmed to be an active fascist (yes, an actual Fascist with the political definitions that come with that word). Like AK press, CU Radical Reading group will not support nor promote the work of fascism but rather we are committed to fighting against it.)
